Victoria Harbour

As the third largest harbour in the world, Victoria Harbour is truly a defining gem of Hong Kong. It is the city's most active port, as well as a major contributing factor to the dynamic and lively atmosphere of the region. Magnificent scenery and seemingly endless activities adorn the coasts, but some of the most wonderful views can be captured from a cruise through the harbor. The city is especially beautiful during the fireworks display held every year during the Chinese New Year. Over twenty three minutes, brilliant colors and lights illuminate the night skyline, creating a breathtaking image.

Victoria Harbour is also rich in history due to its instrumental role in the establishment of the British colony in the early 19th century. Though Hong Kong is now independent of Western authority, these events have shaped the city and culture into Hong Kong as we know it today.

The skyline in Hong Kong is another magnificent sight to see. Some of the best places to view it is at the TST Promenade and Avenue of Stars, both of which overlook the Victoria Harbour. The skyline is especially beautiful in the morning when facing in the opposite direction of the rising sun. This creates an image complete with the outline of the city, the Victoria Peak, and a brilliant blue sky in the background.

A completely different, yet equally spectacular view of the skyline can be seen at nightfall. This time, city lights replace the sun and reflect the skyline off of the harbor water.
